Brandon Stanton
Brandon Stanton is a well know American photographer and blogger, most known for his Humans of New York blog which he started in 2010. Stanton was born 1984 in Marietta, Georgia. He studied History at the University of Georgia and got a job at a Chicago-based trading firm in 2008. He worked as a bond trader at Gambit Trading LLC for three year before he lost his job in 2010. Earlier in 2010, Stanton had just bought his own camera and was starting to take pictures on the downtown streets of Chicago. He started just taking pictures of figures on the streets, then he started to converse with them and learned their stories, he traveled to New York planning to take portraits of people there before heading west. He fell in love with NYC and moved there setting a goal of taking 10,000 street portraits. Eventually he created a facebook page to share his photographs, he started just posting portraits but later started to put captions with parts of the conversations he had with them. In 2012 he grew his blogs by getting unpaid assistants and going onto Tumblr as well as being featured in Vogue. By October 2013 he had published nearly 6,000 portraits and had 400,000 followers on Tumblr and 1.6 million on Facebook. At the 2013 Webby Awards, Humans of New York won the People’s Voice award in the “Best Use of Photography”, later in 2013 he released his first book based on his blog and had sold 30,000 copies as pre-orders. Hi book reached number 1 on The New York Times Non-Fiction Best Sellers of 2013 and in 2014 Stanton is due to release his next HONY book called Little Humans. Stanton has been recognized by Time Magazine, Vogue, CNN, ABC News and other news sources. He has a successful career and has bigger plans for his future.
